TAMPARAN A INAAN-PAGAMAAN
SA PANGAMPONG A MASIU
Datu Ontay Marogong
Tamparan is one of the traditional settlements in Panagampong a Masiu, located on the east of Lake Lanao, between Municipality of Taraka in the north and the municipality of Poona-Bayabao in the south, Lake Lanao in the west and Lumba a Bayabao Municipality in the East.
The name of the town derived from the Meranao root word “TAMPAR” and Tamparan means “Frontage” refer to the full length of this boundary and adjacent to something, the word tampar refers to Amiting and Barao when they were asked for the adjacent in the division of the land, (ANDAKA TAMPARA BARAO AGO ANDAKA AMITING?) they both chose the area and called TIAMPARAN e Maruhom Barao ago si Maruhom Amiting, Tiamparan later pronounced Tamparan by the American officials and became official name of the municipality.
Tamparan became one of the 39 regular Municipalities of Lanao Del Sur, Dated September 28, 1960 by virtue of Executive Order No. 405 and consequently declared Islamic Municipality pursuant to Batasan Pambansa (PB) Bilang 33 on June 4, 1984. Politically subdivided into (44) barangays, belong to the 1st Congressional District of the province.
Way back to the Commonwealth Government of the Philippines, under the late President Manuel L. Quezon. It was in the year 1940 President Quezon issued an Executive Order known as Commonwealth Act No. 592 creating Dansalan (now Marawi City) as regular municipality and Tamparan as its municipal district covering the areas (now municipalities) of Masiu, Taraka, Poona-Bayabao, Lumba Bayabao, Maguing, Molundo, Bumbaran and Wao.
In the website of Tamparan mentioned that during the American occupation, Sultan Mangking Sugador was appointed by the American government as Municipal District President, a position equal to the rank of Municipal Mayor, although lesser in power than the latter. When he asked by the American’s Officials about his name, the Sultan said “I am the Sultan of Tamparan”, referring to the “dowa ka lokus” of Tamparan (now Tamparan Proper) he was the first crowned sultan of Tamparan sultanate. Sultan Manking Sugador became popular by his royal title that American officials started calling the town Tamparan. Former Lanao del Sur vice Governor and Datu a Cabugatan of Masiu, late Palawan Disomimba also became mayor of Tamparan LDS for several term, succeeded by his son Abdulla Topaan Ditual Disomimba Sultan of the royal house of Masiu to the present.
By tradition, the Masiu Pangampong has 3 traditional districts, however it is tied with one order of consensus, they share the same taritib and descent line with the same male founding ancestor, and each alternates (idal) in supporting the other. They thus form only one district and Lumba a Masiu, Poona Masiu, and Sedepan a Masiu are sometimes identified as sukus and Tamparan belong to Lumba a Masiu.
The Igma and Taritib of Pangampong a Masiu stated that the two patriarchs of Tamparan “BARAO & AMITING are the councils of the elders of the sultanate of Masiu and Tamparan’s sultanate represent as elders of Masiu to monitor and supervises the royal system of Pangampong a Masiu and to be consulted before entrapment of any royal titles within Pangampong a Masiu. Barao and Amiting are the sons of Sharif Angkaya of Masiu a direct descendants of Sharif Mohammad Kabunsoan of Maguindanao, the reigning Sultan of Tamparan is HRE. Sultan Amin Mangking Salomabao, enthroned on July 23, 2011 at Tamparan proper, he will represent the two patriarchs of Tamparan as council of elder of Pangampong a Masiu. Datu Ontay

MAYORS OF TAMPARAN LDS
From the data of Datu Aldin Disomimba
My adopted article (Datu Ontay)
In anticipation of the forthcoming election 2016, we need to publish this clear history of our town the Islamic Municipality of Tamparan for at least the electorates may glance whether their relatives or ancestors became a leader in our town. We need to know our great leaders, appointed officials and elected officials for us to know their legacies and personalities. We opted not to include our traditional and warrior leaders because we believe that every barangays has its own traditional and warrior leaders. These are their names:
SULTAN MANGKING SUGADOR of Tamparan Proper was among u73 the few "Amigos" to the Americans during the early occupation in the Philippines. A loyal trusted Amigo, he was appointed as the first Municipal District President, a position equal to the rank of a Municipal Mayor, although lesser in power than the latter. Tamparan got its good name when the late first Sultan of Tamparan , Sultan Manking Sugador was asked by a ranking American leader what is his name. Instead of mentioning his real name he answered " I am the Sultan of Tamparan" (referring to Dowa ka Lokus ko Tamparan). He was then popular by his royal title. From that time this humble town was called TAMPARAN which means in English "Frontier".
DATU SOROTAN ACMAD of Linuk and Lumbaca Ingud relieved Sultan Manking Sugador to his position and Datu Sorotan Acmad became popular when one time he paid all the cedula taxes of his people who refused to pay taxes of the government because they believe to be un-islamic.
SULTAN ALIPONTO TAMBUNG of Tatayawan was the last appointed Municipal District President at the time of President Manuel Quezon. Sultan Aliponto was the first appointed Municipal District Mayor under the Commonwealth Government.
DATU MACARADI ESMAEL of Tatayawan, a father of Datu Benaning Macaradi replaced Sultan Aliponto and appointed Municipal District Mayor.
DATU MACATANONG OMBAWA of Linuk was appointed Municipal District Mayor during World War II. He is the grandfather of Sultan sa Masiu, Hon. Mayor Tony Disomimba our present Mayor on his mother side. He sacrificed his life in defense of his people and homeland from the Japanese imperial forces.
SULTAN MANGUNDAO GANIMRA of Linuk was appointed by the Japanese Puppet Government. Its worth pointing out that after the untimely death of Macatanong Ombawa, Tamparan then had two mayors at one time, Sultan Mangundao Ganimra and Datu Malawi Tandong.
DATU MALAWI TANDONG of Lumbaca Ingud and Tatayawan was also appointed Guerilla u73 Municipal District Mayor up to 1946.
DATU LIWALUG MANDING of Linuk was appointed Municipal District Mayor replacing Mayor Malawi Tandong.
DATU MIPANGA CALAUTO of Tamparan Proper was appointed Municipal District Mayor up to the early part of President Elpidio Quirino administration in 1948. He was then relieved by Datu Liwalug Manding, but after the death of President Manuel Roxas, Datu Mipanga Calauto was reappointed as Municipal District Mayor up to the time of late President Carlos P. Garcia in 1959.
DATU PALAWAN DISOMIMBA, a descendant of the Royal Blood of Masiu, a former Public School Teacher, Chief of Police, Guerilla Officer and a Deputy Provincial Sheriff of the Court of First Instance of then undivided Lanao province, was the FIRST ELECTED MUNICIPAL MAYOR of Tamparan in 1959. He being a man of qualification with varied experiences. Under his uninterrupted successful administration as a Municipal Mayor of Tamparan and sometimes unopposed for 21 solid years, it was characterized with rapid progress with respect to the infrastructure programs, such as construction and concreting of roads (Provincial, Municipal, Barangay Roads, School Buildings, Wharfs, Hospitals, Health Centers, Artesian Wells, and he had help much in propagation of Islam by establishing the now existing 13 Maahad and Madaris particularly Islamic Mosques. In recognition of his leadership and administrative ability, he was elected so many times as President of the Lanao Del Sur Mayors League and Region XII-Central Mindanao Mayors League. He was designated as concurrent capacity as the Provincial Administrator by Governor Ali Dimaporo, and to act as Officer-in-Charge of the Province of LDS whenever the Governor is out of the province. In 1980, he was elected Vice Governor of Lanao Del Sur with an overwhelming majority over his political rivals (1980-86). On February 15, 1985 he was crowned as DATU A CABUGATAN OF THE ROYAL HOUSE OF MASIU at Gapao Balindong, Taraka, Lanao Del Sur.
DATU BENANING MACARADI, a brother-in-law of Mayor Palawan Disomimba and son of late Municipal District Mayor Datu Macaradi Esmael, was elected Municipal Mayor at the time Datu Palawan Disomimba became Vice Governor of the Province of LDS in 1980. Mayor Macaradi administration was successful especially that he was responsible of changing the name of the town into the ISLAMIC MUNICIPALITY OF TAMPARAN (1980-86)
HADJI IBRAHIM CARIS of Linuk was the OIC Mayor of Tamparan while Mayor Palawan Disomimba was designated as Provincial Administrator. This was the prior to the election of Mayor Macaradi.
HADJI ALAWIYA MAGOYAG was appointed as OIC Mayor of Tamparan by the MLG-Minister Nene Pimentel, Jr. during the Edsa Revolution 1986 UNder Freedom Constitution, and then he was replaced/relieved by Datu Palawan Disomimba (March 15, 1987). Again, HADJI IBRAHIM CARIS was appointed as OIC Mayor effective December 01, 1987 up to the time that qualified and elected Mayor is duly proclaimed. For love and respect of the good people of Tamparan, His Royal Highness, Datu Palawan Disomimba was again reelected the seventh time as their humbe Mayor due to his tested leadership.
DATU CAMID MIRAATO, JR. the elected Vice Mayor of Datu Palawan Disomimba was succeeded/assumed as Municipal Mayor of Tamparan during the untimely death of Datu Palawan Disomimba.
DATU TOPAAN DITUAL DISOMIMBA, a newly crowned Datu a Cabugatan of the Royal House of Masiu, a member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, Province of LDS, also a President of the Lanao Del Sur Kabataan Barangay Federation and Provincial Coordinator of Presidential Council for Youth Organization was elected Municipal Mayor of Tamparan on May 11, 1992 Synchronized National and Local Election. Presently, he is the Sultan of the Royal House of Masiu.
HADJI CAMID PATORAY of Tatayawan was also elected Mayor of Tamparan. He is a legitimate businessman from Zamboangga Barter Trade before he entered politics and eventually became a mayor.
HADJI ALI MANGGIS of Lalabuan and being an elected Vice Mayor , he was appointed OIC Mayor during the protest period of the incumbent mayor and his political rival.
BAE JANAREE PUNDATO-DISOMIMBA , daughter of Former OMA Secretary Dimas Pundato was elected Mayor of Tamparan. She is the wife of Mayor Topaan Ditual Disomimba.
At last, our present mayor is SULTAN OF MASIU, HONORABLE TOPAAN TONY DITUAL DISOMIMBA.
