BAE TARHATA ALONTO-LUCMAN
first Muslim lady governor of Lanao del Sur
Princess Tarhata "Tata" Alonto Lucman is the first Muslim lady governor of Lanao del Sur, appointed in 1971. She is a member of one of the royal families of Maranao, she fought the Martial Rule of the deposed President Marcos. Known as Tata, she is better known as a rido (clan conflict) settler, noted in a TIME magazine article for helping the release of kidnapped nuns in Marawi City in 1986. From 2001, she has been leading the Muslim-dominated province of Lanao del Sur, the Autonomous Regional Government in Muslim Mindanao.
Early Life
Born into royalty among Ramain’s Sultanates, Tata as a girl-child looked up to other pioneering Moro ladies like Princess Tarhata Kiram and Dayang Dayang Piandao of Sulu who were able to get educated and travel abroad and to the capital. Within her one year of schooling in her hometown, she was accelerated to grade 4 at the tender age of 6 years old.
The only English-speaking among the household, she acted as translator at the busy home of her father, Alauya Alonto , who was a religious leader and politician. Tata was reared in the world of politics. She assisted her father, who was “no read, no write” in his travels to Manila. This would be her training ground in the man’s world. Constantly defying rules, Tata also didn’t want to marry someone not her choice. She was constantly engaged by her family to men from Maranao buena pamilia , but she would break the betrothals . She would find that the constant visitor, mentor at her home would be interested in her. She soon married Sultan Al-Rashid Lucman.
AIMAN CAIRODEN PANGANDA O MRANAO
MSU's First Muslim Summa cum Laude
Aiman Cairoden, son of a poor Maranaw widow, just wanted to have a college diploma so he can have a decent job and help send his five siblings to school.
Cairoden did not just receive a college diploma on Thursday (April 4), but also brought honor and fame to his home-province of Lanao del Sur for graduating summa cum laude from the state-run Mindanao State University's (MSU) 2013 Bachelor of Science in Biology class.
He is the first ever Moro student to achieve such feat since the creation of the University in 1961.
The MSU is the biggest government-owned university in Mindanao.
Cairoden, son of a Maranaw driver who died in a car accident two years ago, is an ethnic Maranaw from the first district of Lanao del Sur.
Since the university was created in 1961, all of its summa cum laude graduates were non-Muslims, mostly Visayans.
Cairoden’s mother and siblings wept as he delivered his valedictory address before 1,926 graduates at the Dimaporo Gymnasium inside the MSU campus.
Cairoden was known in the MSU campus as a studious and frugal student, who spent his money wisely.
He has many Muslim and Christian friends from whom he borrowed science text books.
relatives said Cairoden is still uncertain if he would proceed to study medicine or immediately look for a job so he can help send his younger siblings to school.

SPEECH OF SULTAN KUDARAT
What have you done? Do you realize what subjection would reduce you to? A toilsome slavery under the Spaniards! Turn your eyes to the subject nations and look at the misery to which such glorious nation had been reduced to, look at the Tagalog and Visayan: Are you better than they? Do you think that the Spaniards consider you of better stuff? Have you not seen the Spaniards trample them under their feet? Do you not see everyday how they are obliged to work at the oars and the factories with all their rigors? Can you tolerate anyone with little Spanish blood to beat you up and grasp the fruits of your labor? Allow your selves to be subjects (today) and tomorrow you will be at the oars; I, at least will be a pilot, the biggest favor they will allow a chief. Do not let their sweet words deceive you; their promises facilities their deceits, which little by little, enable them to control everything, reflect on how even minor promises to the chief of other nations were not honored until they become master of them all, see now what is being done to these chief and how they are being led by rod.

LEGENDARY MARANAO HERO
AMAI PAKPAK (DATU AKADIR)
A fearless Maranao warrior, Amai Pakpak, also known as Datu Akadir, born in Buadi sa Kayo, lived and died for the cause of Muslim freedom. He was famous for his heroic military exploits against the Spaniards, particularly in his defense of the legendary Kota Marahui (Marawi), the fortification made of earth and stone, which he had built. The Kota served as a bulwark against the Spanish invasions of 1891 and 1895.
Today, Kota Marahui is now known as Camp Amai Pakpak. The nearest landmark, located several meters away, is the Agus 2 hydraulic plant since 1650, when the Maranaos routed the Spanish expeditionary forces sent by Governor Corcuera, Lake Lanao had been free of foreign intrusion. It was not until 1891 that the Spaniards sent another invading force to try to capture the lake area. Personally led by Governor-General Valeriano Weyler, the campaign, begun in April, aimed to establish military strongholds in key points over Lanao and Cotabato. To carry this out, Weyler organized more than a thousand troops who were transported to Iligan Bay by four ships packed with military supplies. The main objective was Kota Marahui, which had been heavily fortified by cannons and guns, the Muslim warriors manning them ready to sacrifice their lives.
On August 19, Marahui fell, but the following day, Amai Pakpak and his forces reconsolidated and launched a fierce counterattack, proving that despite Marahui’s loss, the rest of Lanao was not about to give up. On August 21, 1891, the Spaniards launched a two-pronged attack. They bombarded the fort, overwhelming its defenders. Both sides sustained heavy casualties, though Amai Pakpak and his men who survived the onslaught eluded capture by retreating into the lake settlements. There, they regrouped. The Spaniards did not savor their initial victory for long. Three days later, the Muslims were back a bigger and more formidable force that compelled them to withdraw in their own redoubts in North Lanao.
Henceforth, the Muslims regularly staged lightning raids, in small units, against enemy settlements in southern Misamis Oriental and Iligan. This went on for four years. In time, the colonial government decided that if the stalemate were to end and the Muslim settlements around Lake Lanao subdued, the campaign on land should be bolstered by naval support a strategy that had found success elsewhere in Mindanao. Thus, a fleet of four steel-armed light gunboats was sent to the lake within a period of one year, from 1894 to

ABWA AMINAH'S GRAVE
MGI TRIPPERS VISITED ABWA TOWN
AUGUTS 19, 2016
After the Basketball match of MGI Inter-color, blue (Aziziya boys) versus Red (Gulil boys) the group went to Art Cousin in Sarawat Market to have their unlimited foods trip, then 12 trippers out of 28 traveled going to Abwa town to visit this place which was mentioned in a Hadith and the Sirath’on Nabi (PBUH)
The Trippers reached Abwa and we climb the small mountain before the town proper, suddenly the first mountain we climb not correct, a Saudi authority came to us and asked what we were looking for?, Mr. Rashdi Dimakuta replied and said the grave of Hazrat Bibi Aminah (RA) the beloved mother of Rasul (PBUH), the Saudi national instructed us to climb the next mountain and we used GPS as guide going to correct location, about 100m the 12 trippers climb the mountain. The group of Manager Seradj climbs it from right side of the mountain while the group of Datu Ontay climbs from the Left side until they reached the peak,
We argued, why the grave was bulldozed, thrown gasoline and black oil, then Perots said I will moved down to next level to look for Pokemon, then we leaf the bulldozed moved to next of it and I saw the correct grave based on the picture we brought and the instructions from a good source, the authority removed the land mark of the site to avoid worshiping in the grave, it is haram to worship the grave, only “Rafida or Rawafid Muslim” do! Some people went to this area and worshiped on it that is why they block the road going to this mountain.
After valuable Selfie in the site, the trippers moved down from the peak to their car and they travel going to Abwa proper, then trippers took some selfie in old mosque of Abwa and the cultural center, then we traveled back to Rabigh and took our late lunch at KFC RABIGH, after hour of rest in the food court, we traveled going to Thuwal to take a rest in the white beach of Thuwal, 1 hour seaside rest then we moved back to Jeddah, Alhamdulillah 12 trippers safely home around 5pm. (Datu Ontay)
TRIVIA (THE ABWA)
Abowa is small town located between Rabigh city and Madina city, about 242 Km from Jeddah, equivalent of 2 hours and 20 minutes road way. Al-Abwa is a village belonging to Rabigh city, western coast of Saudi Arabia. Muhammad (PBUH) entered it before the Battle of Badr, in the 2 Safar AH.
It was here that Abu Sufyan ibn al-Harith adopted and embraced Islam, The Seventh Twelve Shia Imams and direct descendant of Muhammad, Musa al-Kadhim, was born in this town. As Islamic history the place where the mother of Muhammad (PBUH), Hazrat Amina bint Wahb died and her grave located somewhere in this town and the authority prohibit worshiping in the grave,
Our purposed to visit this historical town is continuation of our last traveled in Wadi Halema in Bano Saad, when Rasul (PBUH) reached 6 years of old, he and her beloved mother visited the grave of his father in Madina, in their returning home to Makka his mother Amina got sick and died on their way to Makkah,
Aminah bint Wahb - The Mother of Muhammad (pbuh)
The womb of Aaminah bint Wahb was certainly the noblest and the most honorable of all wombs because it was the womb that carried the seal of all the Prophets and the leader of the Messengers. It was in this womb that the noble fetus (Allah's Messenger) settled. This seed had been passed down from the loins of men, generation after generation until Allah in His Divine wisdom decreed that it moved into 'Abdullah ibn 'Abdul Muttalib, the youthful Qurayshi who excelled his contemporaries in greatness. 'Abdullah ibn 'Abdul Muttalib was ransomed from slaughtering, after his father had vowed to sacrifice him and had sought to fulfill his vow. He was the most precious person the Arabs had ever known.
He was not slaughtered by Allah’s will, so that the Divine choice might be actualized and firmly rooted in the history of mankind, all bearing witness to Allah's absolute Will. There is no change in His Words and there is no preventer against what He has decreed.
"Allah chose Adam, Nooh [Noah], the family of Ibraheem [Abraham] and the family of 'Imraan above the ‘Aalameen [mankind and jinn]. Offspring, one of the other, and Allah is the All-Hearer, All-Knower." (Qur'an 3: 33-34)
'Abdullah went out with his father 'Abdul-Muttalib after he had been saved from being sacrificed. A woman from Bani Asad ibn 'Abdul 'Uzza then saw him beside the Ka'bah and said to him, after having looked into his face,"You will be given the like of the camels that were sacrificed for your ransom if you cohabit with me now."
This is because she saw something special in him. 'Abdullah replied that it was better for him to die rather than to commit an unlawful thing and that for a noble man to preserve his honor and religion was more worthy. 'Abdul-Muttalib chose Aaminah bint Wahb of the Zuhr clan as a wife for his son 'Abdullah. Aaminah was then the best Qurayshi woman in lineage and status.
A fortune-teller from Tibalah who was known as Fatimah bint Murr al-Khath'amiyah had also seen 'Abdullah. This woman was one of the most beautiful and chast of Arab women. She saw the light of prophethood in the face of 'Abdullah, she then offered herself in marriage to him but he rejected her offer.
The news of a Prophet that would come from the children of Ismaa'eel (peace be upon him), was spreading among the Arabs all over the peninsula. This news was based on what the people of the scripture had narrated and what they were informing from what was recorded in their Torah, both implicitly and explicitly. People were also finding this out from fortune-tellers and astrologers.
Even though 'Abdullah ibn 'Abdul Muttalib was a handsome youth, possessing an amazing and lofty upbringing and even though he possessed chastity and high morals and young women had sought him and asked for his hands in marriage, Allah had decreed that Aaminah would be ‘Abdullah's wife.
Aminah's womb soon bore the noble fetus of the Prophet. A few months after the pregnancy had taken place, 'Abdullah undertook a journey to Syria (Syria according to Arab geographical terminology is a region consisting of Palestine, Jordan, present day Syria and Lebanon. The city of Gaza, which is on Palestinian coast, was one of the major cities that Qurayshi merchants frequented). But on his way back, he fell ill and stayed with his maternal uncles from the tribe of Bani Najjaar in Yathrib, where they nursed and took care of him. Sadly, he died because of his fatal illness and his young wife was left as a widow
Aminah was traumatized by the death of her beloved husband, who had only lived with her for a few months after their marriage. She wept bitterly and wailed severely as her fetus had already become an orphan before it had even been born. But she pushed herself to stay strong and persevere. She found consolation in 'Abdul-Muttalib who took good care of her and showed her much compassion. Her pregnancy was surprisingly very comfortable and easy.
In her dream one night someone came to her as she was sleeping and said to her,
"You are pregnant with the Leader and the Prophet of this Nation (Ummah)."
He came to her again, just before she was to give birth and said, "Say after you deliver him, 'I seek protection for him with the One (Allah) from the evil of every jealous person.' Then name him 'Muhammad'."
In this way Aaminah continued to see dreams. More than once her dreams give her glad tidings, strengthened her, encouraged her to be patient, consoled her and indicated the greatness of the child to be born to her.
The delivery day was a great day. It was a dawn which was to remove the darkness of deviation from mankind. Yes! The Prophet (peace be upon him) was born in spring ... after cold hurricanes, the thunders of winter and after the darkness of its clouds. It was in spring, after the heat and scorching difficulties of summer and after the dryness and changes in nature which come with autumn.
Aaminah said,
"When I delivered him, a light came out with him that illuminated all that was between the East and the West. The light illuminated palaces and markets of Syria until I saw the necks of the camels in Basra. I saw three erected flags: one at the East, one at the West and the third over the Ka'bah." 'Abdul-Muttalib, the Prophet's grandfather came and took the boy named Muhammad to the Ka'bah. While circumambulating the Ka'bah he said,
"Praise be to Allah Who gave me this important boy. I seek Allah's protection for him."
Some of the above was narrated by Aminah to Haleemah, the Prophet's wet nurse.
It is here that Haleemah bint Abi Dhu'ayb entered the life of Muhammad (peace be upon him) as his second mother. But the first taste of milk which entered the Prophet's noble stomach was by a woman named Thuwaybah, the freed maid of his uncle Abu Lahab ('Abdul-'Uzza ibn 'Abdul-Muttalib) who dearly loved his brother 'Abdullah. Abu Lahab was gravely saddened by the death of his brother and when his freed maid Thuwaybah came to him and broke the good news of the birth of Muhammad (peace be upon him) to him, he was so happy that he set her free. That was the habit of the Arab noble men, as a source of pride, happiness and glory by them.
It appeared that Thuwaybah stayed with Aaminah for a few days after she delivered. Thuwaybah had also just given birth, hence she breast-fed the Prophet (peace be upon him) until Haleemah came and took him to the desert.
The role that Haleemah was to play in the Prophet's early childhood was fundamental and important. His stay with her was full of important events.
***
Muhammad (peace be upon him) was now back in Makkah and was enjoying the warmth of his mother Aminah’s love and the compassionate care of his grandfather, 'Abdul-Muttalib. He was growing fast and his face was different from others as it shone forth illuminated light. His appearance brought splendor, his heart was filled with signs of guidance and transparence and his tongue was characterized with tenderness and sweetness.
This was not surprising as he was being nurtured by Allah, the Exalted.
Aminah would often hug and embrace her beloved son. She would feel a unique warmth that she used to feel when she was pregnant with him. His grandfather was also dearly attached to him; 'Abdul-Muttalib - the chief of Quraysh -could not bear Muhammad's absence, and he would never tire from looking towards him. Every morning he would come to visit him at Aminah's apartment and at different times of the day. He would ask her,
"How is my son Muhammad?"
And he would hold him and hug him with the utmost love a grandfather could have for his grandchild. He would see in Muhammad the image of his son 'Abdullah who had died while still a bridegroom and whose death left in him unparalleled sorrow. What made him feel better was when he saw his grandson’s amazing characteristics which increased in him compassion and love for him.
When Muhammad (peace be upon him) reached the age of six, his mother sought permission from 'Abdul-Muttalib to go to Yathrib with her son in order to visit the grave of her beloved husband 'Abdullah and to spend some time with his maternal uncles, the Banu Najjaar. He gave her permission to go and advised her to take good care of herself and her son. Aaminah set out with her son Muhammad and Barakah, who was Aaminah's maid-servant, she used to serve Aaminah and take care of her son Muhammad (peace be upon him). This is why we see in Seerah the Prophet's great love for Barakah (may Allah be pleased with her) and why he regarded her as a member of his household and family.
Aaminah felt great pain and sorrow when she stood beside the grave of her beloved husband. She cried profusely as she clung to her orphan child. It appeared that the fever of Yathrib had affected Aaminah before she left the city. She did not realise this until she was on her way back to Makkah. Her condition became worse and while at a village called Abwa', she succumbed to her illness and breathed her last.
Muhammad (peace be upon him) wept bitterly for his mother as she was never to return. He wasn't left alone, as he had Barakah, the freed slave of his parents. Like a mother would carry her son, Barakah (may Allah be pleased with her) carried Muhammad (peace be upon him) back to Makkah. If only she knew what a great child she was carrying back to Makkah…

SARIMANOK
The Sarimanok is a legendary bird of the Maranao people who originate from Mindanao, a major island in the Philippines. It comes from the words "sari" and "manok." "Sari" means cloth or garment, which is generally of assorted colors. Manòk is a Philippine word for chicken.
It is the legendary bird that has become a ubiquitous symbol of Maranao art. It is depicted as a fowl with colorful wings and feathered tail, holding a fish on its beak or talons. The head is profusely decorated with scroll, leaf, and spiral motifs. It is said to be a symbol of good fortune
The Sarimanok is derived from a totem bird of the Maranao people, called Itotoro. According to the Maranao people, the Itotoro is a medium to the spirit world via its unseen twin spirit bird called Inikadowa.
The Sarimanok is also believed to have originated from an Islamic legend. According to the legend, Muhammad found a rooster in the first of the seven heavens. The bird was so large its crest touched the second heaven. Its crow roused every living creature except man. Judgement day would come once this celestial rooster ceased to crow
A Maranao legend also says of a Sultan's daughter being swept by a colorful rooster that became a handsome young man and they were never seen ever again. The Sultan then created replicas of the bird to remember his daughter by
