Ancient name of Unayan Pangampong

Marogong is the ancient name of Unayan pangampong, the word Marogong derived from the root word “Rogong” which means sound of thunder, marogong is a plural of rogong, given by Dimaampao kalinan the founding ancestor of Unayan principality,

The history narrated that when Sharif awlis, a Muslim missionary famous in all of Sulu and Mindanao, visited Bembaran and taught the Islamic faith. The people there refused to accept it, though, so God became angry and destroyed the kingdom with a great fire, volcano eruption spewing rocks and lava or lahar. A man named Dimaampao Kalinan and his 4 brothers, who’s barely escaped and evacuated to Kiaranda a ragat a tiongkop a layagen (Preserved sea water) now Ranao, this man later married to Sittie Anak of Butig settled in the area and name the place Marogong. Thus the people of Unayan Pangampong (principality) claim descent from Dimaampao kalinan, the first founding of the ancestors of Marogong or Unayan.

Time passed, Datu Paskan, grandson of Dimaampao kalinan became the next ruler of Marogong, he changed the name into Unayan, this was after the coming of Islam in Mindanao on 15 century, the reason why he named the place Unayan, the word Unayan is a maranao term, in english “FOUNDATION”,  he believed, the first place landed by the Shariefs who brought Islam in mainland Mindanao was in Malabang which is part of Unayan area, that’s why he call it Unayan, first foundation of Islamic faith in mainland Mindanao was in the place, and any Maranao/Iranon don’t have blood related in the area is not a royal blood in Maguindanao and Ranao. That was according to him.

Marogong municipality is named Marogong by a visionary, optimistic and dedicated leader, Sultan Abdulmadid Maruhom, to let Marogong exist and not to forget by the next generation, unlike the Maganding of Masiu, Dagodob of Bayabao seldom to be heard, he had of view that Marogong will be the next Capital of Unayan Pangampong.

MASIU PANGAMPONG

The oldest name of Pangampong a Masiu was Maganding Daorogen a Maorintang Anonen, given by Bataraan di kilaten, darangen narrated that, Rajah Indarapatra of Komara Mantapoli found Potre Raina laot at the cave of Masiu river, Raina Laot and Indarapatra got married and bore the twins, now the darangen start sung from the twins,

Bataraan di kilaten is a noble of Bembaran, he was the son of Pazandalan a Morog, his brothers were, Dimaampao, Domalandalan, and Botawanen, this 4 brothers agreed to build their own kingdom in Ranao after the kingdom of Bembaran was totaly destroyed, Dimaapao found "Marogong" now Unayan, Domalandalan settled in "Mimbisa" now Baloi, Botawanen stayed in "Dagodob" now Bayabao and Bataraan choose "Maganding" now Masiu,

Bataraan di kilaten was married to Nomonao sa Ragiray, one of the 4 native princesses in Ranao, the lovely couple settles in the area and named the place Maganding, now the people of the Pangampong a Masiu all claimed descent from Bataraan di kilaten the founding ancestor of Masiu,

The next chieftain of Maganding was Ami Alongan Simban, he was the grandson of Bataraan di kilaten, he changed the name into Masiu of the original word Masui. The word masui was derived from the root word "SUI" which means Return or going back, Masui is a adjective form of SOI. in his mind, darangen and the genealogy of Mindanao originally traced from Masiu, into the present existence, (mini soi soi on so Bangsa sa Ranao) later pronounced as Masiu and some spelled it "Maciu", this history retold by Amadato a Mitorogan of Moriatao Bae, Balaigay Masiu 89 years old, agreed by Amadato a Monaba Sangcopan sa Nanagun in Wato Balindong 75 years old,

According to the Taritib (traditional order) of pangampong a Ranao, Masiu is the Largest and most documented royal Sultanate of Ranao. with co-equal in royal power and prestige with the other principalities of Bayabao, Unayan, and Baloi. Its territory is divided in to three section (soko) on the east and west of lake Lanao. Poona Masiu, comprise the municipality of Masiu alone, Lumba a Masiu, comprises the lowland of Molondo, Taraka and Tamparan, the last section is the sedepan a Masiu (Kawali I Pondag) comprises the upland of Wato Balindong, Tugaya, Bacolod Kalawi, and Madalum. These are the traditional Inged township of settlements upon which "Municipalities" have been superimposed by the modern provincial government.

The Masiu Pangampong total territory is relatively smaller than either one of the territory of its sister principalities, but it is no less populous, fertile and productive with strategic advantages on the lake shorelines where the early Maranao ancestors originally founded and nourished their ancient civilization.

Taraka is the Capital of the Pangampong a Masiu. The Principal set of power of the Sultan of Masiu is maintain by the royal houses Torogan of Maruhom Rahmatullah and Maruhom Dialaloden on the Banks of the Taraka River, These royal houses have the exclusive right to assume, alternately, the title of thrones of Sultan of Masiu and Kabugatan of Masiu as had been vested upon their family lines by the great Ancestor SARIKALA "BALINDONG", Datu Sarikala was enthrone as first and only Sultan Samporna of Taraka a Balindong bsar of Pangampong a Masiu, the original founder of Masiu Sultanate.

Masiu's white soil ( Maputi a lupa) of ancestor Sarip Angkaya was located at Barangay Labay Moriatao Bae of Masiu, this sacred soil is a part of the white earth of paradise, was left in  "Basak" behind poona Masiu and they call it the sacred sand, this sand is part of Al-rawda inside the mosque of Nabi Mohammad, (S.A.W) Nabawe at Madinna Al-monawara. Before it was concretely cemented, Ancestor Sarip Angkay performed hadj and keep some of al Rawdah dust and brought it in Masiu,  It was the custom in Masiu to offer respect on this earth, before the new sultan after his appointment that might set on it, for the confirmation of his sultanate. They believed no sultan could be successful and prosperous in his reign unless he performed this royal rite, the custodian of the white soil is the descendants of Sharif of poona Masiu and the Moriatao Bae, Sibling of Maruhom Dialaloden, at this present day, it was under the care of "Labay clan" with the support of Guiling, Pooni Macasalong and Repors Clan,

Over the century, there developed numerous sub-principalities (sultanates or Inged) mention above within this pangampong which serve as "councils" (mbabaya ko taritib) to the main sultan of Masiu, as it is today. Such ancient class systems among cluster of royal communities (inged) is respected by all the four Pangampong confederation as well as their sub-principalities which altogether constitute the traditional Bangsa Maranao nation, a potential supportive power to the sovereign New Philippine Republic

THE NATIVE INHABITANTS

The ancient people in Mainland Mindanao were called Iraanun of the costal area of Illana bay (Ilian in M’ranao) and  Iranaon of the people in Bembaran (Bukidnon) and Kiaranda a Ragat (Lanao or Ranao) Area.

The Iraanun is the people of the constant flow of rivers and creeks from the mountains to the coastal areas, and volcanic eruptions little-by-little a flat land surface developed. Modern science described and illustrated as a result of sedimentary formation and residual remains forms the low and flat land surface in the coastal areas. The M’ranao vernacular called it “IRA” which means remains. Thus the name of the people in the costal area of Illana bay was derived from the root word “IRA” IRAANUN which means people living the residual remains in the coastal areas. The people of Ranao called them “IMRAGATEN tao sa RAGAT” at this present day they are “IRANUN”

The Iranaon are people from the lake (Ranao in M’ranao), the history narrated that on 1074 Ranao area was lived by the monsters animals “Makaogis and Omakaan” this destructive animals controled the lake was plenty of fishes reason for them to owned the area. The people of the lake were forced to leave the area and migrated to Malabang, but the princess of Ranao was brought in Sabah Borneo for her safety and security.  this princess was married to Sultan Nabi Bacaraman of Komara Mantapoli and got only Radia Indarapatra, Radia Solaiman is a half brother of Indarapatra,

Radia indarapatra was the first Malay Datu arrived in Mindanao on 1130 to visit Ranao and toke revenged against these monsters; he first landed in Uranen kingdom now “Malabang” The first seat of goverment of the Uranen Kingdom was in Tbok, a barangay of Malabang, Lanao del sur along coastal area of the municipality.

Rajah Indarapatra proceeded to upland in the area of Lake Lanao, in a short period, he retake the area from Omakaan. after having destroyed all these noxious animals, and having restored peace and safety to the land. Radia Indarapatra married to Raina laot of Mimbalay in Maganding now” Masiu” bigoted a twin brother, Ayadiwata mokom of Kaadiong a Lupa (Rinamuntao) and Ayadiwata mokom of kialonod a ig (Rinayong)

M'ranao salsila start from the twin, Sharief Aulia arrived to the decendats of Diwata mokom in Bembaran and Ranao to introduced Islam, Thus the people of Lanao (Ranao) claim descent from Rajah Indarapatra, the first Malay Datu and native in Lanao who arrived on 1130 A.D.

I beg to disagree, that M’ranao tribe come from only at Iranun tribe, the truth is Iranaon people intermarriages with the Iraanun people and that is now the M’ranao, Irayan Buayan, Ilud Maguindanao and Iranun at this present days. Bilaaan, bagobo, manobo, kalagan and sangil were  from this Mother tribe,

Iranaon are people of Ranao who migrated to Ragat area, Costal of illana bay, M'ranao or Maranao are people who dwelled around the  lake Lanao, they belong to same genealogy, lineages, culture and history, based on the language used in the area,  they are called Maranao in general.

 KINGDOM OF MALABANG

The town of Malabang is considered as oldest settlement in mainland Mindanao and oldest municipality in the Philippines, it was located at shore of Illana bay. Iranun tarsila stated, that malabang is the center of all tribes in mainland Mindanao, it was called Uranen Kingdom where Sharief Aulia’s first landed, the first seat of goverment of the Uranen Kingdom was in Tbok, a barangay of Malabang, Lanao del sur along coastal area of the municipality

The Capital of Uranen kingdom was Tbok, later changed to Malabang when Sharief Aulias arrived in Mindanao on “Between” 1200-1300, some history narrated that Malabang derived from the word BANG which is “Adjan” Muslims calling prayer, when Sharief Aulias delivered Adjan in the place with a loud voice, the people was shuck and ask what that voice, datu of T’bok replied and said; Great Adjan “Mala a Bang” done five times a day in calling prayer, thus the people of the tbok named the place MALABANG, place where the first "Bang"  Adjan was heard and deliverd,

On 14 century Sharif Kabunsoan was arrived in Malabang and married Princess Angintabo daughter of Rajah in Malabang and got Macaalang the first Iranun Datu ruled Maguindanao Sultanate. The town of Malabang is the main seat of Iranun tribe on the shore of Illana bay, a mixture of Iraanun (Iranun) and Iranaon (M’ranao) Philippines census distinguishes between Maranao and Iranun. All indication is there are one tribe in one language, the distinction, if any, lies in the fact that the people living near lake Lanao are called Maranao, while those living south of the lake near Malabang on the shore of Illana bay (Ilian) are called Iranon,

Clifford A. Sather of Peabody museum at Harvard University in a letter of April 26 1966.To Fred Eggan, director of Philippines studies program of university of Chicago, report that he found some 4000 Iranons living in sabah (north Borneo) who seemed to stem from a mixture of Iranaon (Maranao) and Maguindanao ( Iraanun). Sather interview with an Iranon’s school teacher in Sabah and Revealed “that the lake Lanao of region in Mindanao is regarded by his people as their original homeland” so if their origin is in the lake lanao area, they are Iranaon or Maranao,

The ruler of Malabang before the coming of Sharief Kabusoan was Makaapen Radia Simban of Malabang, “Simban” is a M'ranao term which means Lord Master, he is a great grand son of Sharief Aulia, People of Malabang was one of the oldest existing nations in the world, all tribes in mainland Mindanao are connected to this Kingdom and any Irayan Buayan, Maguindanao Ilud, Iranon of Illian and Maranao of Ranao don’t have blood lineage to this place cannot hold any recognized Royal Title in Main land Mindanao,

Malabang is town where the National Hero the former chief justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines Jose Abad Santos was killed by the Japanese Imperial forces by the Firing Squad on May 2 1942.

Malabang is a 4th class municipality in the province of Lanao del Sur, Philippines. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 33,177 people in 4,883 households.

THE MARANAO IDENTITY

Kuya Edris Tamano said, and I Quoted, Thig ka a Mranaw ka. aya maana oto na thrb ka sa Ranaw, phaigo ka. Maranaw (Meranao; M'ranao; Muranaw; Maranao) is a misnomer. We are Iranaon (taw sa kilid a ranaw). Our Maguindanaon (maginged sa danaw) Refer to a Pulagi River which is “Lubog a Ig” danaw in Iranon. Brothers called us Iranon, eliding the "a"(also Ilanon).

If we go back to the tuthul o tarsila (silsilatun nasb = genealogy), Maguindanaon and Iranaon (Maranao and Iranon) are one bangsa; so that Mindanao could be pronounced as Minranao without changing the meaning. Let us only hope that Mindanao will not have a pseudonym like Nueva Isabela, like what happened to Iliyan (Iligan), Kayaan (Cagayan), Pangadian (Pagadian), Samboangan (Zamboanga), Mala i walay (Malaybalay)

"As I told my friends time and again that we are not Maranaos. Maranao, a misnomer, is a creation of our adversaries. It is not in our etymology for MA os Me to denote a people of a place. The prefix is I- as Iranaon for people living around or by a body of water. The Iranon with the elision of a before o refer to our kinsmen and to us, too. Dividing the Iranaons into Iranon and Maranao is a strategic scheme to divide and rule, if not to decimate and control. Of course, we know better our own affairs than outsiders."

"As Filipinos, we have the penchant for adopting western names that has no relation to us. The Philippines from Principe Felipe is a striking example. If he was a Christian saint, at least his name can be related to the religion of the majority. He is not even our hero. As for Moro and Indio, at least we can relate to both considering our colors."

"It is not much of a problem if our own places undergo little changes in the pronunciation of their names, as long as we do not forget the origin. Chances are people will come to their senses and bring forth the original, like Iligan for Iliyan (meaning gulf), Cagayan for Cayaan, Pagadian for Pangadian, Zamboanga for Samboangan, etc. But if our places and people have to change to Santinoan, General Mc Bride, Sta. Barbara, Isabelle, San Salvattore, and the like, THAT IS TRULY ANOTHER STORY."

According to the Iranon tarsila, Iranaons or Iranons now days, as nation was one of the oldest existing nations in the world. It sprang from Karingke-Karibang Line of Descent. The Karingke and Karibang offspring was intermarriage with the people of Malay in origin, (Indarapatra a malay to Raina Laot a Karibang in a cave of a river along Masiu),   probably from the Sri Vishaya Empire. Out of this breed line of descent, a group of people sprang into existence.

Iranon auithorities in tarsila classified tribes in Mindanaw into two; namely: Muslim Moro and Non Muslim Moro. The identified Muslim Moro are: Iranaon Iranon in Illana bay, the original tribe (nation), Iranaon M’ranaw in lake Lanao area, Maguindanawon of Raya and Ilud Pulangi river a Danaw river, Tausog (Sulog), Sama, Jama Mapun, Yakan, Badjaw, Kalagan, Kalibugan or Kulibugan, Malbog, Palawani, and Sangil (Sangir in Iranun version). The non Muslim Moro are: Tiduray, Subanen, Blaan (Biran in some version),

Tboli, Bagobo, Manobo, other tribes are affiliated with major non Muslim Moro tribes. However, many of the non Miuslims Moro have embraced and accepted Islam as an ideology way back 1960 up to the present. According to survey, more or less ten (10) non Muslims Moro who are embracing Islam everyday throughout Mindanaw.

WHERE THE GRAVE OF SULTAN KUDARAT?
Unayan Pride

Sultan Muhammad Dipatuan Kudarat is a Muslim ruler, Hero enthroned 7th Sultan of Maguindanao sultanate, who begun to assert his leadership in the year 1619 and reigned the Sultanate of Maguindanao from January 1625 to 1671 A.D.

Kudarat is a son of Sultan Laot Buisan of Malabang 6th ruler of Maguindanao, he was known to the Spaniards as Corralat and to some Dutch writers as Guserat. By 1645, he was already using the title of “sultan”. As a young man he was entitled Sultan “Katchil.” Katchil is malay term, which means little, “little Sultan”, His real name was Qudratullah, which denoted that the bearer’s power came from God. His great grandchildren referred to him as Nasir ud-Din. In 1656 he reached declared a jihad against the Spanish colonialist. His sultanate was felt as far as Ternate in Indonesia and Borneo and in facts its power had reached the shore of Bohol, Cebu, Panay, Mindoro and Manila in north,

He was a virtuous leader who embodied the idea of basic unity, oneness and freedom among the diverse people scattered throughout its Sultanate. For this reason, he was recognized as one of the National heroes of the Philippine during the term of President Ferdinand Marcos, Sultan Kudarat province was named after him, in honors for his bravery and being the father/hero of all Muslim in Mindanao,

He died about the end of 1671 after having ruled for about half a century. His rule, with varying fortunes and at different capitals, can, therefore, be fairly estimated to have taken place from 1619 to 1671. As the will of Sultan Kudarat (Amanat) to make known in future that coastal area of Lanao is a part of Maguindanao Ranao Sultanate, he was buried in Pikong Sultan Gumander lanao del sur, and his daughter was married to Nago sa Pikong his nephew and ancestor and founder of pikong Sultanate,
